Thurs, 4/3: Thomas Barber’s Spiral Road - Spiral Road is a new group from bandleader, trumpeter, and composer Thomas Barber. The ensemble features original music by Barber that aims to explore the use of constant, unpredictable shifts in rhythm and harmony, while drawing from a diverse array of musical styles. While living in NYC, Thomas performed with Paul Simon, Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy Heath, Tom Harrell among others. Thomas will play trumpet and bass. Joining him will be Clay Giberson-piano, Dan Duval-guitar, and Tyson Stubalek-drums. Don’t miss this captivating jazz quintet!

Fri, 4/4: Tom Goicoechea’s Eugetet,– Jazz drummer Tom Goicoechea plays a unique blend of contemporary jazz, encompassing a broad and eclectic mix of improvisational music, from free jazz to funk - both originals and classics. In New Orleans, Tom played with Aaron Neville, Delfeayo Marsalis, Brian Seeger, Papa Mali among others. Tom has played the House of Blues New Orleans, Tipitinas, Snug Harbor, and at Jimmy Mak’s. Award winning saxophone player and educator, Dan Wilensky, who hails from NYC, quickly captures the audience with his sassy and poetic approach to the instrument. Fri, 4/25: Rich Halley 4- Rich Halley has been described in print as one of the world’s finest jazz tenor sax players! Halley is a saxophonist and composer who has released fifteen critically acclaimed recordings.  The “Rich Halley 4” explores new spaces and approaches using the roots of American and world music as sources.  March 25th will be a release for their new CD "The Wisdom of Rocks".  Their last CD, "Crossing the Passes",  was on a number of lists of the best jazz recordings of 2013 including Down Beat magazine. As All About Jazz describes it: "The music's appeal is it's unusual and engaging mixture of structure and freedom”. Thurs, 5/1: Rick Greene Quartet – Rick has been an important member of the Portland jazz scene for over thirty years. He has also performed in New York City with the late jazz organist Brother Jack McDuff. Rick's quartet will feature mostly his original compositions in the styles of John Coletrane's modal music to Ornette Coleman's free jazz to jazz standards. The band will include some of Portland's finest musicians including Greg Goebel-piano, Scott Steed-bass and Todd Strait-drums.. We hope you can join us for an evening of music and joy!

They also sing jazz tunes from the ‘60s to the present, some duets, and, SOME JAZZ YOU KNOW, SOME YOU DON'T. Leni Stern is the five time winner of Gibson's best female jazz guitarist and this tour is right on the heals of completing her latest CD, “Smoke, No Fire” of which Portland born Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding lent her talents on several tracks, and her CD, “Jelell” (2013).  Inspired by time spent in West Africa, their sound is a cool fusion of jazz and rock blended with intoxicating rhythms of West African traditions.

Sat, 5/24: Dmitri Matheny Group, featuring David Valdez - Celebrated for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique, American musician Dmitri Matheny has been lauded as “the first breakthrough flugelhornist since Chuck Mangione” (San Jose Mercury News). A protégé of Art Farmer, Matheny has matured into “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players” (SF Chronicle). Thurs, 5/29: Jonathan Rowden Group - The Jonathan Rowden Group is a new quartet that has exploded onto the LA Jazz scene as one of the most original and distinctive new bands around. They have been lighting fires at LA's most legendary jazz venues like Blue Whale, Jazz at the CAP, Vitellos, and The Baked Potato, and are touring the west coast in support of their upcoming album,"Becoming“.  Jonathan Rowden (saxophones/electronics) received his Master's degree from CSU Fullerton w/ Grammy Award winning composer/pianist Bill Cunliffe; he has performed with musicians such as , Dave Siebels, Dave Pietro, and is a published educator for Downbeat magazine. Joining Jonathan will  be Ryan Pryor- piano/rhodes, Chris Hon – bass, & James Yoshizawa - drums/percussion. Sat, 5/31: Devin Phillips Quintet, Featuring Vocalist Michalangela – Devin Phillips is constantly pushing the borders of what is considered modern jazz today.  Phillips carries a torch passed to him by a long lineage of New Orleans Masters. Michalangela, a daring vocal improviser, has expanded into soul music, R&B, and gospel, inspired by Erykah Badu and Billie Holiday - while keeping her foundation rooted in jazz.
