Mario Sandoval on vibraphone and percussion, Lindsey Quint--baritone saxophone, Matt Hetwer--trombone, Grant Sayler--guitar, Miranda Williams--bass, Jon Huteson--drums. Mario Sandoval, originally from Guatemala, has been making quite a name for himself as a versatile musician on the Portland jazz scene. He is a freelance musician navigating the world of NW music. As a regular player in the Portland music scene he works as a sideman for some of the top talent the NW has to offer. Mario performs in these groups on multiple instruments including, Drumset, Timbales, Congas, Cajon, Misc Percussion, Vibraphone, and Melodica. What a TALENT! Brandon Braun-drums. Nicole Glover, Jon Lakey, and Brandon Braun are three of the most exciting up and coming musicians on the Portland jazz scene. Accompanying them is Professor George Colligan on piano. They'll be performing some Monk tunes and originals. Sat, 12/7: Rebecca Coupe Franks Quintet--Rebecca Coup Franks on trumpet, David Valdez on sax, Weber Iago on piano, Chris Higgins on bass and Randy Rollofson on the drums. Trumpeter and composer Rebecca Coup Franks, simply known as "Coupe" has been well established on New York scene for almost 30 years. She has learned from cool cat players like Joe Henderson, Kenny Barron, Herb Ellis, Ravi Coltrane, Victor Lewis and Lou Donaldson. Her music twists and turns in ways that you will not expect with soul that anchors the foundation ruthlessly throughout the songs. She mixes genres, like pop, bebob, Latin, soul, swing, old school and blues. Her artistry surpasses all other endeavors to date. This will be her first appearance in the NW. Rick has been an important member of the Portland jazz scene for over thirty years. He has also performed in New York City with the late jazz organist Brother Jack McDuff. Rick's quartet will feature mostly his original compositions in the styles of John Coletrane's modal music to Ornette Coleman's free jazz to jazz standards. The band will include some of Portland's finest musicians including George Mitchell on piano, Kevin Deitz on bass and Todd Strait on drums.
